IBM T42 Video Problems

Asked by mjhudso

I installed Ubuntu on an IBM T42 about 10 days ago and have been using it regularly in the evenings for a few hours. I set it up so it can access one of two wireless networks and it has worked impressively and flawlessly.

When I booted the system this afternoon, there was no video on the Thinkpad display. Thinking that there was something wrong with the display itself, I hooked it up to an external display and that was completely dark as well. At this point, I figured I had a fried Thinkpad. But I put in another harddrive with Vista on it and it worked fine.

I'm not much of a Linux guy, but if someone can tell me how to restore the video, perhaps by booting off the installation CD, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Mike

The problem does seem to be with the Thinkpad rather than the OS. Even though Vista booted on the PC last night, it didn't this AM so I suspect the problem lies with the Thinkpad display. Sorry for the false alarm.
