I am having touble downloading ubuntu. Everytime I download it to my desktop, it saves as NTI cd/dvd maker. I can't open Ubuntu or load it to a computer.

Asked by Ella Lee

I am having trouble downloading ubuntu. I am using an ACER laptop running xp service pack 2. The software saves to my desktop as NTI cd&dvd maker. When I open the software, I am instructed to insert a blank disk to burn. How do I correct the problem so that the software downloads properly.

Hi Ella,

You have in fact downloaded it correctly, however it is not software as you traditionally think about it (it is not 'installed in windows', but rather runs 'instead of windows')

Information on how to write it to a cd can be found here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

Once the cd is burned, you will need to restart your computer with the cd in the drive. When it restarts, you may need to do a minor change to your computer's bios to tell it to look at the cdrom first, which instructions are detailed here (your screens may differ because you have a different computer than the tutorial writer, but the overall process is the same):
http://www.peacefire.org/bypass/booting-from-cd-tutorial/

If when you restart with the cd in the drive, and you still end up in Windows, then you need to do the above thing. You can leave the modifications as-is, and simply remove the CD when you don't want to try out ubuntu.

Hope this helps!
