Assistance with UBUNTU Networking
For many years our not-for-profit volunteer run veterans organisations computer network (Veterans Support and Advocacy Service Australia Inc.) has operated on NT 4 Server software. We have a network with usually around 18 clients PC's, all running licenced MS_WinXP Pro software. As we receive no ongoing funding from either government or private enterprise, it has been my task to investigate the use of open licence software to help bring our overheads down and the UBUNTU OS appears a viable alternative to upgrading the server without it being another expensive MS Windows based server system. ............. A colleague and I have been experimenting with UBUNTU as that alternative server software, but are not confident enough to make the changover because of total inexperience. To this end we have decided to seek assistance from the UBUNTU community in Australia to help us set up a new server with UBUNTU installed. A quick email to CANONICAL, with a request for assistance saw us knocking at your door. Our basic need at the moment is the services of a well versed person in UBUNTU and networking to set up the server. Our organisation is more than willing to pay to have a setup installed as we intend to follow an Open Source software road in an effort to contain exhorbitant and ongoing costs. ............. The network is located in Toowong in Brisbane. All PC's are P4 Dells and we have an ADSL connection to the internet. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from members of your team with some sort of solution. .......
