Asked by swift240

Hi, I use a TV Tuner card PCI and no matter what I do, I can not get any sound.
I have clicked on and off all options to test but still no sound.
I don`t know what else to do, and help please.
Thank you,
I am using Ubuntu 7.10
My sound card is Compro Technologies.

some tv cards you have patch the sound though your sound card[patch cable] unless your using the caption card on board sound then change your sound preference in the volume control.

There is a patch lead coming from the TV tuner going to the Sound card, but no matter what switch I press it just will not work.
I don`t know what else to do now?
Its the same with the FM Radio tuner no sound.
I use TVtime tv tuner, MythTV, and XawTV.
All same problem no sound.

Can you try plugging your speakers directly to the tv tuner to see if you have sound coming out of it?

Try this open a terminal and type:
v4lctl -c /dev/video0 volume mute off
or
v4lctl -c /dev/video1 volume mute off

Then if it don't work please open a terminal and type:

cd /tmp
dmesg > result.txt
echo " --- lspci --- " >> result.txt
lspci >> result.txt
gedit result.txt

copy and paste the content here.

I try to discover the loaded kernel module for your TV tuner card.
After we can pass to it some load parameters.

Thank you

Ok your Video Tuner Card is:

Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7130 Video Broadcast Decoder (rev 01)

and the

saa7130/34: v4l2 driver version 0.2.14

is loaded by the system and it is recognized as generic

saa7130[0]: subsystem: 185b:c200, board: UNKNOWN/GENERIC [card=0,autodetected]

Now i try to search some useful kernel parameters to make audio works.

Sorry but is too difficult from here to give you the right parameters to the modules and test them.

I found a lot of pages, some here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-431825.html

You have this alsa "sound" module loaded by the kernel:
saa7134_alsa 15392 0

http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Saa713x_devices
http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Saa7134-alsa#Insmod_parameters
http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Saa713x_devices

to test different modules parameter you must first unload module modulename
sudo modprobe -r modulename
then reload it with different options:
sudo modprobe modulename option1 option2 ...

Then test if sound is working.

I hope someone else have this card good configured will answer you.

Bye.
