how to replace existing suselinux on WinXP-system by ubuntu?

Asked by JochenPfaff

i have windowsxp and suselinux on my system. now i want to replace suselinux by ubuntu. I read that I possibly get problems with the bootloader, in this situation. i stopped the installation from live-cd, as i dont know how to repartition my harddisk.
Now I have: /dev/sda1 ntfs /media/sda1 104855 MB (windows) the remainder is for suselinux;
/dev/sda5 ext3 /media/sda5 73MB; /dev/sda6 swap 2154 MB; /dev/sda7 ext3 /media/sda7 21476 MB; /dev/sda8 ext3 /media/sda8 71485 MB;
I am not experienced with disk manipulations and would like to get a concise instruction how to do it.
Many thanks in advance Jochen Pfaff

The route I would take, is to boot the liveCD, then delete any SuSE Linux partitions leaving /dev/sda1 as it is your windows partition, then allow ubuntu to partition and use the remaining area of the disk. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot Is a great resource for dual-booting as well.
Thanks,
