What are you using for word processing?

Most people use "Libre Office" or "Open Office". For either of these the settings can be changed by selecting Printer settings from the file menu Then properties to get the correct page size.

Then select Page from the Format menu to set your margins etc.

Dear Warren,
Thank you so much for your reply.  I do a lot of word processing on MicroSoft Word and am trying to learn Linux/Ubuntu.  It is NOT as easy but your answer did help some.  I have downloaded a legal size form that I need to fill in for a project.  I understood your explanation on page size and got that fixed.  But the margins are still not working.  Would appreciate ANY suggestions.  PS I am 75 and continuing to learn.  Thanks!  Jane

And one more thing. Most often the save option you take is .DOC. What I mean is , when you save the file, give option as SAVE AS.. than you may scroll down and find .DOC file.. Name your file and choose .DOC as the file type. Since most computers do have Microsoft OFfice and OPen office save files in different file name... And if you feel so confusing and tough. More simple solution is. .You can see SOFTWARE CENTER. That is "Ubuntu Software Center" on your start button.. Click that and search "WINE".. You can find Wine Software. Install Wine Software.. And if you got any Microsoft Office CD , than you can install MS OFFICE using WINE. Simpe is open that software using WINE. and later you know you can use MS office in UBUNTU.. Simple I believe..

Hi Jane

It may help you to read some of the LibreOffice documentation. You will find it at

http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/

Don't forget that LibreOffice has Help, just like MS Word does and there are other places to got to get help, see

http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/

For setting margins, you need to have the rulers showing, just like in Word. If they are not showing, go to View and click on Ruler. They work much the same way as in Word.

Hope that all helps.

Tony

I will work on this. Thanks for the info. By the way, your last name Pursell/Purcell/Pearsell is VERY old and ancient line of folks from Normandy, France. I do genealogy research as a hobby. Thanks! Jane
