partition

Asked by jackau

Hello~ Thank you for ans my problem~

Some background information.
I have a laptop, and i partitioned my HD in to 2 parts( 20gb and 40 gb)
I used to stone my pictures, movies, and songs in my 40gb HD.
and my win Xp and othe progaram were in the 20gb HD.

yesterday,i installed ubuntu 7.04 from CD in my 20gb HD, and i cleaned all my old file(winxp) in my 20gbHD.
lucky, after installation, i still can read my 40gb HD. but i can't store file any more.
My question is, can i make my HD storable again without del my file?
If Not, i prepare to stone it in DVD and partition it again, but i dun know how to partition it to a storable HD.

PS. sorry for my english if there are any confusion.( English is no my 1st language)
Thanks

Hi:

Try upgrading to ubuntu 7.10, the problem is that the partition is NTFS(Windows XP file system), and ubuntu 7.04 had only the ability to read, and could not write. I think in ubuntu 7.10 it can write.

Go to Accessories > Terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install ntfs-config

After it completes installing NTFS-Config, go to Applications > System Tools > NTFS Configuration Tool and select both the buttons shown.

Check them both and hit OK. You can now Read and Write to your 40 GB partition just like in Windows without any deletion etc necessary.
