GL Desktop randomly closes

Asked by Jmadero

GL Desktop randomly disables, I'm pretty sure it's a glitch in the software. My roomate is experiencing the same problem. Another issue is that when it disables and you go to System-Preferences-GL Desktop, it acts like it's opening something but then doesn't, then you go a second time and it'll open twice (I have waited up to 5 minutes after the first time to see if it's just lagging but nothing happens). Is this a problem with GL Desktop or Compiz?

Hi,

Which version of Ubuntu are you using? The latest version, 7.10, has Compiz installed by default for supported hardware and is considerably more stable than previous versions of Compiz or Beryl.

Cheers,

Chris

I am using Gutsy with the pre-installed Compiz, before I never had the problem of it randomly shutting down (when using Compiz in Feisty). I have a NVIDIA 7900 GS which is fully supported as far as I know, my roomate has the 7800 and is experiencing the same exact problem. It's not that big of a deal because it doesn't happen that often but when it does of course there's a little frustration.

It sounds very odd; I too am using Gutsy, an nVidia card (6800GT) and the Ubuntu-provided restricted driver and it's totally solid.

I can only imagine that it might be a problem with the GL Desktop software, which I do not have - I configure my desktop effects through System - Preferences - Appearance and System - Preferences - Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (aka compizconfig-settings-manager).

Regards,

Chris
