Updating versus Installimg in Kubuntu with DVD

Asked by Piet Beukes

Hi, I am still somewhat confused with the updating issue -
I am working with Kubuntu 7.04 and have updated it to the most resent updates.
Now I wish to update (NOT install) the new GG 7.10 so that I do not have to repartition and not lose data - I cannot update over the Net becuase of the size of GG.

- I have now gotten the new 2 CD for this purpose. However, I am not sure if it will not INSTALL rather than just update. I have read everything I could find on this but have not seen anything to be sure that the CD's will only update and not install.

Once everything is on the 1st time in GG, then I can update new patches over the net because It will probably be much smaller update then.

Can I go ahead with the CD's and update or will it only install over my existing data so that I will lose all my data. ( I will backup everything to be safe, but I would rather not lose any data).

Upgrade CD (Also known as Kubuntu 7.04 Alternate CD) will Upgrade your Kubuntu without destroying existing settings. Just same as updating over the Internet.

You shouldn't be booting with it, just add the CD while running Kubuntu and add it to Adept's repositories as a CD-Source if not auto-added and you should be able to run an Upgrade just fine.
