Desktop Effects could no be enabled - graphics card?

Asked by X-Legs

I use an HP Compaq 6510b notebook running Windows XP Profesional and Linux 7.10 (Gusty Gibbon).

My graphics card is a Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100.

Whenever I try to Enable Desktop effect is get the error message "Desktop Effects could not be enabled"

I looked around the net and I found something that said this particular card is blacklisted.

Any way i could solve this problem?

Note: I am a new Linux user (just started 2 days ago) and I wold appreciate detailed instructions.

Than you.

Hello,

If your card is blacklisted by the compiz developers, it won't run compiz properly, as sad as this is :(

I have an x3100 also it is blacklisted because of video issues although they are discussing workarounds for hardy. If you want to try compiz anyway you can avoid the blacklist (be warned you will need to turn compiz off to watch videos). The compiz blacklist is here http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Hardware/Blacklist the page also tells how to enable compiz anyway.

Can you help with this problem?
