Asked by jack martin

What software do I need for basic operation.... I want to remove the unnecessary stuff..... every update I get is loaded in the system, some things don't work which I expected, is an old 40gig computer...

I have rhythmbox, open office, movie player for streaming country music, skype, limewire and firefox. I am working with wireless. does work with dialup and hard wired.

I love it, hasen't crashed and have been using all summer.

wish I had the guts to mount on my laptop, a dell b120. whadyathink,
Best regards
Jack

For old and low resource computers I think using Xubuntu (XFCE version of Ubuntu) is much better since the DE is very light and doesn't stress much on the CPU.

But I didn't quite get what you asked, what do you report is not working?

my tower has a pentium 4.. and was an office unit..
my question was... what software do I need to do basic operations.... the unit runs great just wondering if I have extras in the system that will jam it up later..
thanks

That would depend on what one calls "basic operation".
Be able to compile a software is basic operation for me. But it may not be for you.
You have to identify software you don't use from the menu and remove it using synaptic.

Can you help with this problem?
