Monitor stops responding and leds starts to blink even before install starts

Asked by zudchu

I guess this have been up before but I can't find any previous issue that directly relate to mine.

So this is the problem; Whenever I try to start Ubuntu from the boot CD the monitor stops responding (you hear a clicking sound from it (its a CRT monitor) and the led starts blinking) and the Caps/Scroll Lock leds start blinking. This happens no matter what option I try. I've tried all possible memory configuration but still no solution.

Since everything crashes before anything but the boot menu starts I haven't been able to install it.
I've also tried to change the screen mode from VGA to first 1600x1200@32 (my normal screen resolution) and then 800x600. This did not solve the problem however.

So far I've only tried the Ubuntu 7.10 64-bit version, I've downloaded the 32-bit version and will try that now.

System config;
AMD 64 3000+
1gb DDR memory
Radeon X800XL 256mb
1x160gb Maxtor (ATA133) + 1x80gb Western Digital (ATA100) discs

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards
Olle

Hello,

Usplash sometime seems to have problems at high resolution screens, but even if nothing is shown on screen, boot process runs fine.
Are you sure your PC crashed, or is just the screen black and HD/CD-ROM still active?
In the latter case, wait a couple of minutes until the LiveCD finished booting.

Can you help with this problem?
