how to install from ".deb.gz" file

I downloaded "g2ipmsg_0.9.1-1_i386.deb.gz". I am knew to ubuntu. How to Install this Deb Package. When I extract it, its converting in to folder which I am unable to install using package Manager. I am using Ubuntu 7.10. Gnome edition.
Any Help in this regard will be appreciated.

Don't extract it. RIGHT click on the .deb icon and choose e.g. Open with GDebi Package Installer
