unable to connect to dial-up internet in kubuntu 7.10

i am unable to connect to dial-up internet in kubuntu 7.10 as the kppp dialer shows an error msg saying that unable to open modem
i have a 56kbps dial up modem

i have tried using the command lspci -nn in terminal, this shows the pci devices on board and the modem is detected

please suggest something........

The exact model of your modem can be a useful information.
