7.10 installation problems

Asked by Eivind

Hello

I try to install Ubuntu 7.10 from a cd on a computer that already has Windows installed on it. I boot up with the cd and get to the screen where I can choose the option to start or install ubuntu. When I do this it seems like ubuntu live is starting up, but after a little while all I get is a command line and it says that I can type help for some basic commands. I do not know what to do form here. Why do not ubuntu live start properly?

Thank you in advance

Sounds like you've encountered a problem. Have you selected the menu option to test the cd you're using?

Once you know the cd is okay, can you write down the exact message that you received? It's likely that there was an error above the command line. Additionally, can you provide some information about the computer you're using?

Hi

Yes I have tried to test the cd and I noticed that no matter what option I chose, the same thing happens. A message appears saying: Loding kernel, and it loads to 100%, then begins the bootup sequence with the ubuntu splash screen and such. And then I get a command line first saying that I can type help for some basic commands, I dont remember exactly what it says, I will have to check it later.
The computer I am using is a Asus A6U notebook, what else information do you require about it? I have had Edgy Eft installed on it, and most of the previous versions of ubuntu as well. Now I needed to clean the system a little so I figured it was best with a fresh install.

Thank you.

Perhaps you should try to burn a new cd and try again.

I did so actually several times, and every time the same thing happened, but now I found the problem. There was some kind of error in the burn process with the cd burner I was using even though the program said the cd was created sucessfully. I tried usin another computer to burn the cd and it worked right away.
