Did you install the sane lib files?
apt-get install sane-utils
then do (Have the scanner connected and on):
sane-find-scanner
That should work, if not let us know.

Try installing these drivers,

I converted these from rpm's for you and they should work if your using gutsy and MAY/should work under feisty. Download the 2 files and double click on them starting with iscan_2.3.0-2_i386.deb. they should open with gdebi package installer, click on install.

iscan_2.3.0-2_i386.deb
http://www.MegaShare.com/300131

iscan-plugin-gt-s600_2.0.0-2_i386.deb
http://www.MegaShare.com/300132

Here's the link to the rpm version's if the above does not install on your system, you can convert them to deb's using alien as in "alien --script {filename} in a terminal.
