Turn off the Computer with Ubuntu 7.10

Yesterday I install the ubuntu 7.10 but since this when I was turning the computer it simply don't turn of.
Before, when I do this a "ubuntu" logo surge with a orange strip. But now the screen saty in black and nothing else happen. How can I fix it?

Try the following:

- log off
- press "ctrl + alt + F1" to go to console
- login on the console
- press "halt -p"

Tell me if it shuts down.
