Re: Can Kazam save video to local hard disk instead of internet?

Asked by Kavoura

I am sorry, I also just installed Kazam, but no options appear after finishing the record, so I can't really choose one (not even the upload option). What happens to the record and what is going wrong?

"I just installed Kazam but when I finished my short test recording the only options I had were to upload to VideoBin or YouTube. Is there an option to view the file without uploading anywhere? I would prefer to edit on my own PC rather than upload, and maybe upload later, but not needing Kazam to do so. "

I got no reply to my post so I guess the developers don't care enough.

Once you've hit finish recording choose the 2nd option that says "Save for later use", then Continue, then it gives it brings up a pop-up window for you to choose where you would like to save the file.

Well, I'm looking for it, and I can't find it. I have never seen this dialogue your talking about. In fact I don't know how to finish a recording.

Call me stupid if you like, but it really isn't obvious. I keep looking, and I keep not finding it. So I give up where is it? This is my second hour of looking.

This information is not on the menu. When I check the upper toolbar, help gives me "About," which I read. Nothing there. I started a video recording (I think) hours ago. Is it still going? I have no idea. How does one finish recording, how do I know where the output is stored?

I hope someday unix develops will get behind the idea that users should know how to use what they are developing.

I agree this is all confusing. Here is what I've noticed, using kazam 1.4.4-1ubuntu0.1 on Ubuntu 14.04.2 with kde desktop.

When I start the app up, via "kazam" from a terminal, I see a window.
After I press "capture", the kazam window, the window disappears. After a while I noticed that there was a video recorder icon in the kde panel or whatever you call it at the bottom of my screen. Right-clicking on that shows a menu where I can either "pause recording" or "finish recording".

When I hit "finish recording" it can take up to 5 minutes(!) for another window to show up, offering me options on how to save the recording session. It took that long even for a short test recording a few minutes long.

And if you run Kazam again meanwhile, it will kill your tempfile and cause your recording to disappear completely. Yuck.
