What is the minimum hardware requirement for enabling full desktop effects using Ubuntu 7.10.

Mine is a celeron 1.6 Ghz Toshiba L30 laptop with ATI Radeon Xpress 200 graphics card. Will I be able to enable all desktop effects.

Yes you can enable all the high end effects on your graphic chipset once the ATi drivers are installed via Restricted-Drivers-Manager.

Thanks,

I installed the ATI drivers via Restricted-Drivers-Manager rebooted the system. Then tried to enable the Desktop effects from the System>Preferences>Appearance>Special Effects. It gives me the following message :

- The Composite extension is not available

And the message window does not go away by clicking close, I have to close it by x.
No effects enabled.

I guess you're missing the XGL package.

Try installing xserver-xgl by giving the command:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xgl

It should take around 3 minutes (Also depends on your connection)
Reboot and try enabling the Effects again. Must work this time.
