Asus L3355

Asked by Francesco Tomassini

I've installed Ubuntu 7.10 in my laptop asus L3355. With Sis 650 graphic card. My computer is too slow and the CPU is used at 100%...
I think there is a bug in Sis driver o in Xorg...
Please help me or I want downgrade to 7.04.
Thanks Bye.

I have the same problem with an asus m2400, same graphic card:sis650. With 7.04 it works very well but not with the new gutsy kernel. It seems the processor whistles and the green light (the light that displays the processor's activity) continues to flash. No problem if I start gutsy gibbon in safe graphic mode.
Any help? Thanx

looking around ubuntu forums, I decided to try this that I found:

____________________________-

Fixed.
The dbus priority in /etc/rc2.d/ was set to S50 making it start after HAL.

Setting it back down to S12 i.e.
sudo mv /etc/rc2.d/S50dbus /etc/rc2.d/S12dbus

fixed all the issues with HAL and everything is now fine.
See:
_____________________________

When I checked on my machine, both dbus and HAL were set to S12... I changed HAL to S13 and on the next boot it ran fine, right up to the point I opened youtube and started playing a video... this then played OK for about 10 seconds and then started chugging badly again, computer has since been chugging badly although I admit I've not been back in to /etc/rc2.d to check if the settings changed at all... I'll check when I get back from work tonight...

Can you help with this problem?
