Ubuntu 7.1/GNOME Task Tray

Asked by Keith MacMurray

Hello,

I installed 7.1 with really no problems, sitting alone one night (no girlfriend) i was bored so I started tinkering around with the taskbar in gnome. Now my 'icons' are missing Its the part of the taskbar when you minimize a program like Pigeon it goes there, like the Task Tray in XP by the time. I added some stuff back to the taskbar but I can't seem to add anything back that did what it did when i first installed it. I really hate to reinstall over a goofy issue like this, but now if i "Close" programs that normaly minimize to the taskbar they close totally - uggh.

Does anyone know how to add the tasktray back?

Thanks so much!

No, you don't have to reinstall. You're missing the "notofication area" applet.

right click on a spare part of the panel, and do something like 'add to panel'. Then find 'Window List' then add it in.

Problem taken care of :)

Thats what I thought it was. Do you have to reboot after you add it, or logout? When I add it, nothing happens to the task bar. I get a "double dotted line" that shows me it was added, i can right click and move the double line.. only thing I haven't done after adding it was logout/login, I had some other stuff going on, but when I get home i'll give it a try. Thank you.

My above post was reguarding the "Notification Area" applet.
