There is no supported upgrade path from 6.06 (Dapper Drake) to 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon). You can either upgrade 6.06 -> 6.10 (Edgy) -> 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) -> 7.10 (That's a lot of work, backing up /home and reformatting to 7.10 is way easier and doesn't break too)

Or you can wait for the next release with Long Term Support (LTS), which will probably be release in next April (2008/04 - Ubuntu "Hardy Heron" 8.04). There will be a direct upgrade available from 6.06 (which was an LTS, too) to 8.04 cause both will have LTS.
