When I started program from terminal I got the grey (non-functioning)
screen with the search bar going back and forth forever. The message I
got was: libparted: 1.7.1

Bug # 155047 states the same problem as mine.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

More information: I let the greyed-out gparted screen run a long time
and then got this information on the terminal:

============
libparted: 1.7.1
============

Unable to open /dev/fd0 read-write (Read-only file system). /dev/fd0
has been opened read only. Unable to open /dev/fd0 - unrecognized
disk label.

Note: fd0 is fd(zero)

Here is the latest. After running the program from the terminal and
getting the message:

================
libparted: 1.7.1
================

read-write (Read-only file system). /dev/fd0 has been opened read
only. - Unable to open /dev/fd0 - unrecognized disk label.

I let the program run and in five minutes it loaded, showing the status
of the disk partitions. Usual time for this operation is about 10
seconds. I tried to unmount a USB disk and it ran for about three
minutes, after which I gave up. So, the program will run, but very,
very slowly.

Again, any help with this will be much appreciated.

I'm having the same problem here, also using Gutsy x64. Also got the same message in the terminal about libparted being unable to open /dev/fd0 read-write.

I found I had the same problem. It was looking for a floppy disk drive that wasn't there. I solved my problem by going into my BIOS setup and telling it I didn't have a floppy disk drive. Another solution would be to add a floppy disk drive to your system.

Can you help with this problem?
