Ubuntu on Intel iMacs?

Asked by Nicholas Witte

Has Ubuntu been ported to the new iMacs with the Intel Core Duo
CPU-types? I would like to run Linux and retain Mac OSX version
10.4.7 in a dual boot configuration. Also would anyone know of the
status of Apple's Bootcamp with Linux (any flavour) or whether/how the Parallels software runs on these machines?

And I would very much like to run it on the new Mac Pro - Quad Xeon 64-bit. My boss wants to throw one at me but I don't want OSX as my main OS :-)

I'm new. I've succeeded installing edubuntu on a 500 mHz PC. It works fine, but I also want to do it on some of the G3 Macs (300 mHz) at our school. Unlike for PC's installations apparently have to be downloaded and burnt at home. I've tried that several times. The CD is accepted by the Mac (running OS 9.2.2) and it looks all right when opened, but there is no chance the Mac will recognize the CD as bootable. How do I get started?
Just to inform: The problem is the same at my Macs at home even they are considerably faster.

I don't know about you guys, but personally... I always am given a crappy time trying to get apple hardware to run Anything but what they have written. Good Kit, Poor documentation, and poor second OS support. Lack of drivers from third party manufactuers of add ins... Apple is a hard core to remove, but not impossible. I have my pre-intel machines running Linux, but No luck so far with my Core Duo, a MacBook Pro - yeah yeah... i should have waited a few months, but new shiny got me. - i can get some things to start to boot but fail. Parrells is a good way to try tho. doesn't make you loose the use of your machine if you mess up. I will let you guys know if i get anywhere.

P.S. Older G3 Kit. big headache to get anything to boot. needs a bootloader style set up.
