Problem after upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10

Asked by haznizul

Hai everybody! Please help me.

When I use Feisty before, everything is just fine. I like ubuntu very much. However, when I upgrade to Gutsy, my pc took 25 minutes to boot.

My pc fetch all the upgrade files. During installation, I skip several uptions to replace some packages. After the upgrade was completed, I restarted my pc and it took so long to showing the Ubuntu logo. Then, I receive this message each time I boot my pc:

udevd-event (2177) : ru_program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu7) Build-in shell (ash)

Enter 'help' for a list of build-in commands

(initramfs)

I don't understand what this mean. When I type exit command.. I get this message:

Attempting manual resume....

After that it shows me the login screen.

I like Gutsy very much.. espacially the graphic effect. But, what I should do to fix this problem?

Thanks for your help.

I guess I know the problem...

Boot in recovery mode
Then type this:

"apt-get remove evms"

It will remove the evms program, and you will not have this problem anymore. However, if you need evms, that's more troublesome.

If it's not working in recovery mode, then once you reach the login screen, log in, open Synaptic, look for "evms", and remove it. Reboot, and it should be ok!

I don't install use evms before. Thanks anyway. Any other suggestions?

My PC do not detect my second hard disk any more. Is it related to this problem?

I upgraded also and had this problem. I have since re-formatted the HDD and put Windows 98 on my computer. But I decided to download Ubuntu 7.10, I did this and put in it in the computer, click start or install and what do you know it comes up with this again! any help would be welcome as I haven't got a clue how to fix it.

Can you help with this problem?
