Gutsy DVD

Asked by Wilbert

I am trying to download the DVD from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/dvd/current/ but my DAP says the size is only 240MB but on the website it is 4.2GB. How do I get all the data?

I'm sorry, I don't know what a 'DAP' is.

OK, sorry. Download Accelerator Plus.

Is there a particluar reason you want to download the DVD? From my understanding the DVD is the same as the Live CD but just includes many more packages (that you would be able to download anyway) than the regular Live CD.

You can get the regular Live CD at: http://releases.ubuntu.com/gutsy/

Of course you could have perfectly good reasons for downloading the DVD I suppose . . . But sorry I don't know anything about DAP.

I don't know much about that specific download accelerator, but these usually work by splitting the files in parts and downloading them concurrently. It might be possible that the size you saw is the segment size.

Also, while these download managers will often speed up your downloads, you're basically fooling the server into attributing you a larger share of its bandwidth. It's not really a nice thing to do to the server and to its other users. If you test a few mirrors, I'm sure you'll find one that has a good speed without needing to resort to download accelerators.

Yes DAP is Download Accelerator Plus. Sorry for the confusion.

I understand now so I don't use DAP or download managers I use Firefox to download and it still says 240MB total to be downloaded.

I prefer the DVD so that I don't have to go to Internet alot because at home I have only dial-up.
