Deskbar Applet results to include Tracker results

Asked by Stephen Gornick

I was skeptical about how often I would use the Deskbar Applet (Alt-F3), but after having it for just a couple days of it I use it regularly and I'm now a believer!

This applet would be even more useful if it displayed the results like Tracker does (without having to initiate the Action to "Search with Tracker"). Fortunately, it looks like that is coming, as inclusion of the Tracker Search Live plugin to the Deskbar Applet is discussed here:
http://<email address hidden>/msg01741.html

The message discusses how a future update will have this plugin enabled by default. Is there a way to manually enable this plugin, or do I need to wait for a new Deskbar Applet build that has this plugin included?

This is an easy solution, If you're running Gutsy. Tracker Live Search has been available for weeks.

Right click the Deskbar applet and choose Preferences. Uncheck the "Tracker Search" plugin, then scroll down and check "Tracker Live Search". Presto!

Thanks. That did work, but I guess that isn't really what I was hoping for.

The Deskbar Applet lists just the filenames and not the details (unless you click on the ">" expander). I was hoping the results with the plugin would change to look like the results in Tracker, but I obviously misunderstood what Deskbar Applet extensions were for.

I can get used to cursoring down to the item of interest, then hitting the right arrow to see the metadata for the file.

This is a great utility though!
