How to simulate middle button on laptops

Asked by john

Middle mouse button to launch multiple instances of an application... Problem for laptops w/o mouse.

The only way to get multiple instances from the new launcher is to click on the icon
with the middle mouse button. This is a problem for laptops w/o a middle button. A
suggested alternative is to press both buttons together of to "tap" two fingers on the mouse
pad. The latter simply seldom works because pads normally look for a single actuator
(usually a finger(. The latter causes problems when the buttons are not together. For
example one on each side of the mouse pad.

Why not have a right click? I notice Firefox does appear to support something. The terminal
window does not!! Linux w/o the multitasking. Well, maybe this will get fixed eventually.

to emulate a middle button click, you tap the top right corner of your touchpad. note that you tap it ONCE.

Thank you marcus aurelius. Little tricky to hit the correct spot but it does indeed work.
