Root Password

Asked by chasmwis

hello.......
i'm currently running 10.04 and up to now have had little problems with it.
i just purchased a Lexmark all in one printer unit......as usual the drivers CD did not have the Linux drivers on it.
checking on their support web site did provide the drivers........
problem........now that I have the drivers i am launching them from my desktop, all goes well until I asked for
my "Root" password. i enter the password I have always used and nothing happens. i stuck in loop asking
for my root password in order to continue loading the drivers. The drivers are not launched from the terminal window.
do you have any ideas?

thanks Chuck

Your root password is same one you use when you update system with synaptic or install with apt-get install.

"The drivers are not launched from the terminal window."

In terminal you have to go to the Desktop if drivers are there.Do that with command

cd Desktop

and then try to install drivers.

That is not the password. You need to set it before you use it. Run "sudo passwd root" without quotes, and input the password for the root user. Once you set it, you can use it normally.

If system ask for "root password" thae that is password used to install,upgrade....No need to add password to root.See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo
