trouble loading ubuntu

Asked by jagriff

I tried to dual boot my Hp laptop with vista and then ubuntu, but the live cd I downloaded is only recognized as a ISO image file and tries to open it with Roxio when I click on it. I followed the instructions I found on Pc world, but it didn't automatically load from the CD when I restarted my computer with the live CD in the dirve(set to load from DVD dirve first upon start up). What is the deal?

If you check the CD on Windows, what files do you see?

If you see a single file with an extension of .iso, you have burned the file the wrong way. Find the option to burn an iso cd or an image, then when prompted select the .iso file you have downloaded. This should burn the contents of the iso file instead of the file itself, you should then be able to start from the CD as expected.

Hope this helps.

Since I asked I have downloaded the morphix live cd, and one other that had beryl pre loaded on it. And they all did the same thing, and then I downloaded "IsoBuster" and a bunch of files came up (including one that read as "Live CD", this is the one I want to run?) instead of just the one Roxio image file that I was getting previously.

The problem I was getting now was that it required me to buy the full version to do any extractions with it.

should I go ahead and buy this program to aleivate my problems, or just wait for the free live CD that is being shiped to me directly from the UBUNTU web site (assuming I will not need Iso Buster)?

I am getting closer, I can feel it!!

no need to buy a full version I think. there are some free programs that you can get for windows which will burn the file as an (iso) image, rather than just create an iso cd.

try
InfraRecorder for example and you also might find this useful:
