Favorite Free Games that runs in Ubuntu?

Do you have favorite Free Games in Ubuntu? (You can find in Ubuntu Software Centre)

My friend have been using windows ever since and the reason why he does not want to leave the very slow windows is that it can run most of pc-games.

I want to prove to him that Linux can't be left behind in games and most of the games here are improving and best of all its free.

I'm hoping you can suggest any of game(s) you tried in Ubuntu (My Fav would be Super tux kart).

A top ten list will be nice (if you have that much)

You may have more luck convincing your friend if you show him which Windows games can run under Linux using Wine or Crossover.

Have a look at the demo for "world of goo" -- its quite entertaining, but it is not free; it costs a little.

"Favourite game" is quite subjective -- you may just want to browse the repository for some of the games.

You can see the popularity of any given package using the ubuntu popcon data, which might give you an indication of relative popularity for any given game.

My favorite games are the Marathon games. These games are 1st person shooter RPGs. There are 9 different games available to dowonload at dotdeb. Some are newer and have high graphics some are older and have more mediocre graphics. Some were made commercially and then released for free others were made by open source programmers. There is quite a variety of them. To install them to Ubuntu, you must first download and install one of the Alephone deb packages from http://www.dotdeb.com/rpg.php and then install any or all of the marathons below them. Have fun!!
