upgrade from dapper to Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

Asked by achevrier

Hi everyone !
Gutsy's just bloomed. And Hardy is coming.
I'm still using
Dapper.
Q1 : Will I have to upgrade step by step from Dapper to Hardy ? (edgy, feitsy gutsy and Hardy)
Q2 : when I upgrade, are old ubuntu version source lists replace by new ones automaticly ? (upgrading from dapper to edgy, is the source list used with dapper, automaticly replace by source list for Edgy ? aso ...)
Q3 : many applications I use, recommend me to upgrade from Dapper to new Ubuntu versions (particularly Feitsy or Gutsy). I've no real difficulty staying with Dapper. From your point of view, do I have to upgrade now, or, as I would prefer, should I wait for next LTS version Hardy on April 08 ?

Hi:

Q1) Yes, that is the way, one by one.
Q2) The upgrade will change the sources.list
Q3) Me personally I upgrade ASAP, that way I can see and test new versions. But that is more of a personal decision, does everything run? you don't need any new features? then you may stay

Add Q1):
Dapper is a LTS (LongTermSupport) release, Hardy will also become a LTS release. This means that direct upgrades from dapper to hardy will be supported (afaik).

How about upgrading Feisty to Hardy? Also one step? Or two? (Feisty-Gutsy; Gutsy-Hardy)?

Upgrading Feisty to Hardy are two steps: Feisty -> Gutsy and then Gutsy -> Hardy.
