what is the best graghics driver for the A21p

I have an A21p ibm thinkpad that used to have windows 2000. windows crashed and i installed ubunto to take its place. this os works well but i notice slower graghics when screensavers come on. do i need better drivers? what steps should i take?

After some Googling, it would seem that your laptop has an ATI Mobility 128 video card. Given this, I think your only choice is the open source r128 or ati driver. You can try using the radeon driver, however, I am pretty sure it's not going to work and/or not give you a noticeable performance boost.

It is unfortunate, but ATI (now AMD) still doesn't offer drivers for Linux, at least not anywhere near the level of offering that nVidia happens to provide. According to latest rumours, since AMD acquired ATI, things are looking up as far as Linux drivers go, however, there is still nothing concrete about older video card support.
