Wine on Gutsy freezes PC

Asked by Uwe Koch

I tried to use wine to run the IEs4linux application on Gutsy, which worked fine up to Feisty on my AMD64 PC. Although, after upgrading to Gutsy, while installing the before mentioned application, my PC freezed. I thought it was a problem related to the new release (7.10), but wine by itself freezes my PC. I have tried uninstalling and installing wine again, but the problem persists.

Hi,

I think I got the same problem with World of Warcraft under wine. I run it, but after a couple of minutes my PC completly freeze. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or Ctrl+Alt+F1 don't help.

Everything was working fine under Feisty.

Anyone has more info/ a solution about this?

Hi again:

maybe the following link may both help us with the problem. I have not tested the proposed solution, but will give a try tomorrow.:

Good luck!

I _think_ I resolved the problem by changing my video drivers.

I was using nvidia-glx and now I use the more recent nvidia-glx-new. I came across posts on the web from peoples having problems similar to mine (under gutsy) that seemed to think it was related to their video drivers.

Good luck!

Can you help with this problem?
