It probably has something to do with the fact that you trying to download on release day. The servers are really hard on release day. Try downloading via bit torrent instead. It usually goes a lot faster that way.

are you sure your internet connection isn't failing at some point? i would reccomend that you download the offical non-beta version of gutsy using bittorrent azureus is a good bittorrent client ( http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ ) and you can get the torrent to download it via bittorrent for your version here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso.torrent

downloading via bittorrent will ensure that the file is 100% complete without any errors

Good to hear. As Gord said, you might try bittorrent in the future (if you are not now). It's fast when there are a lot of seeders and there are a lot of seeders on release day. I downloaded both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions at the same time and in about 30 minutes total. I've had problems with azureus personally but it is supposed to be a good client. I used deluge. It's also quite nice.
