Ubuntu is a complete operating system - it does the same job as Mac OS/X, rather than running as an application under OS/X.

There are versions for both Intel and PPC-based Macs -- find out which you have and try a LiveCD.

To run both Ubuntu and OS/X (although one at a time!) you will need to do something called "Dual Booting". This adds a menu at startup time to select either Ubuntu or OS/X.

This guy has done it:

Make sure you back everything up before attempting something like this! (There is no danger in trying the LiveCD however.)

Can you help with this problem?
