how to close a app that isn't responding

I was wondering .. in windows when a program isn't responding you do a alt control delete it closes the program.. What do you do in ubuntu to get something that can stop the not responding program like in windows?

You can hit the close window button it will tell you the program is not respondin will you wait or foce quit or go to a panel right click add to panel and add force quit click that when a program stop responding and then click the program

Open a terminal and type

xkill

You will get a little X cursor. Click on the app you want to kill and poof it's gone. There may be other ways but that one works well for me.

what if it freezes so much that you can't even get to that?

When the whole screen / gnome / everything is frozen, a driver has probably screwed up. I experience this problem with the ATI driver fglrx.
You will have to reboot if this occurs.

You can restart X windows (graphical environment) by pressing Control Alt BackSpace.
Maybe usefull if the screen freezes
