Cannot Install Ubuntu 7.10 RC-desktop i386

Asked by shuatlim76

I am new to Ubuntu and I want to install a Linux on my aging PC. I download Ubuntu 7.10 RC-Desktop i386 and burned to CD.

I loaded the CD into my DVD and PC started loading from the CD. It goes to main Ubuntu screen, and I chose the first option - Start and Install Ubuntu. After it finish loaded, I clicked on Install and it goes to the setup 7 installation steps.

I followed the step, setup the clock, setup partitioner, I selected the 1st option to re-size my Master IDE HDA1 for dual boot of my current Windows XP and Ubuntu. Then I proceeded to next to setup my PC Name and logon name. After that, I clicked FORWARD to proceed the installation and the system did not response.

The system did not response at setp 6 of 7. I want for 1/2 hour and it did not start the installation.

I want to find what is wrong and what to do next.

Thanks.

Hello !

Please note that RC-version for Ubuntu 7.10 is still unstable (RC = Release Candidate). You might want to wait 3 more days (7.10 final release is scheduled on the 18th) or install the 7.04 version.

Regards,
Benoît

Hi !

Thanks for the input. I was disspointed and wondered, shouldn't the RC version be a workable version to test the OS?

Hopefully the released 7.10 version works. I shall download it then.
