Gutsy alternate install freezes

While installing Gutsy on a system with 256 ram and a 1.3 AMD duron processor the install always hangs during the installation of software--not during the installation of the base system. This occurs with both Kubuntu and Ubuntu variants.

Some hard drive, ram, cd error maybe? I would try checking memory, checking cd for defects, testing md5 of the disk, checking hard drive for bad blocks.

Or maybe it some hardware problem, can you give some more info. Blindly disabling acpi with kernel parameters might help.

Or it may just be a problem with current gutsy alternate cd. ;)
