The Composite extension is not available

My Laptop is Dell Inspiron 1501 with ATI Technologies Inc RS485 [Radeon Xpress 1100 IGP]. When I try to enable the Desktop Effects I am getting "The Composite extension is not available". I changed xorg.conf extension section to

Option "Composite" "Enable"

But the same error. Can u plz suggest me the way to get ride off this

Did you restart X after you added the Composit line? You can either reboot or press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart X.

Which driver do you use open source or ati proprietary (check using glxinfo), and which ubuntu version?

The ati driver for your card may not support direct rendering (3d acceleration) and composite extension together:
