how can i eliminate login at the splash screen?

i would like to boot ubuntu without logging in.

It's kind of a security hole if you enable this but in the login window settings (system - admin) you can set a auto login option. I believe you have to used the timed login option which will auto login the selected user if no one else tries to log in. I think the lowest time limit you can set it 10 secs but it's been a while. I don't believe there is an easier way but there could be. I'll check next time I'm in front of my ubuntu.

I did a bit more checking. I don't remember if this worked in Feisty but in gutsy open the login window preferences (system - admin) and the click the security tab. Enable automatic login and select the user to auto log in. At next boot it should just log in that user. It won't work if you log out. If you log out it waits for you to log in. The timed login might help in this situation. Again, this is on gutsy but I think it's similar on feisty. I can't remember further back than that.
