mergelist não atualiza

não consigo mais atualizar os programas, desinstalá-los e nem mesmo atualizar o próprio sistema. A mensagem de erro que me aparece é a seguinte:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_partner_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
Já pesquisei no google e não econtro nada parecido. Se alguém puder ajudar eu ficaria muito grato.
OBS: Dentre muitas das opções que eu encontrei havia umas de "sudo apt-get install -f" e outros comandos, que não funcionaram aqui

Comente o repositório partner e tente fazer um update e veja se o erro continua.

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_partner_i18n_Translation-en

or

sudo rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists
sudo mkdir /var/lib/apt/lists
sudo mkdir /var/lib/apt/lists/partial

should solve the problem, at least this has worked well for https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+question/152469
