In last 2 weeks my keyboard number keypad has ceased to work

The numeric keypad on my keyboard suddenly ceased to work. I think this was after an Ubunto update. It's not the keyboard as I have tried another (new) keyboard and that has same malfunction. The Number-lock light led is on. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Sorry, I've just found the entry of someone else with the same problem, and their fix worked perfectly. After the update 8.04 somehow the preferences under System > Preferences > Keyboard > Mouse keys, there is a check box against 'Pointer can be controlled using the keypad'. Un-checking the box and my numeric key pad works fine.
