stability issue belive to be related to raid5

Asked by nikorc

Using software raid5 with 5 500GB drives the system seems to have stability issues. System will hang and become non responsive usually when system is doing one of these torrents/unraring/hellanzb/wine is used. Not sure how to figure what might be causing this any advise would be appreciated. System locks anytime I use wine.

/ - 250GB ext3
/home - Software raid5(XFS)
AMD 64-bit X2

Its expected behavior with ATA drives that the system can become sluggish, or what appears to be a soft lock while doing I/O intensive operations, and adding software raid only further loads the system up. As far as wine locking up that is a different story, and you should prolly file a bug against wine.
