Using webcam breaks wireless internet

Asked by Clay Holt

This happened after upgrading from Intrepid Ibex to Karmic. I'm on a Gateway T-1623 laptop. Whenever I try to use my webcam, my wireless internet shuts off and only a restart will fix it. It happens with Cheese and it also happens when I test my video input in multimedia systems. (Furthermore, the upgrade also broke my webcam, but I think I can fix that.)

I read somewhere that it might have to do with power management, but it still happens even after turning that off.

Karmic support dies next month so I suggest you upgrade to at least Lucid. Does it happen in a liveCD lucid boot?

I'm upgrading to Lucid now. I have little doubt that the problem will remain, but I'll let you know.

Yep. I've got Lucid and the bug is still there. Attempting to access video input in any way disables my wireless and won't let me enable it again. This is extremely frustrating.
