Failing to partition the HD.

Asked by Ihateusernames

Trying to install ubuntu 7.4 to dual boot with window xp media edition. it fails to load ubuntu have to add the command noapic to get it to load and then if fails at step 4 of installing and tryed Gparted also and it still fails gives me the error.

Check filesystem on /dev/sda1 for errors and (if possible) fix them

     Ntfs resize - P - i - f - v /dev/sda1

anybody got any ideas?

Log into Windows, run Scandisk and Defrag.
It should leave Windows partition in a tidy state so GParted can go on partitioning.

From Windows have you done a complete Hard Disk check for errors "data and free space" not only data...?

Please report it here the error detail... The message that you have posted here is .not. the error but is the normal check that gparted make before starting the real resize process.

If you don't have read a real error you must wait for the, sometimes very long, check and resize process....

Yes, I've done all 5 steps to ChkDsk. In fact I tried running ChkDsk again today and it won't run it automatically said the disk was clean. And Gpart still fails saying the same thing as to what I posted at my first post.

Use partition magic to arrnge your partition. U can resize your last part of the space with out ant problem and convert it in / and ext3 format. Try the partition magic. You should not need help about partion magic. it is graphical prograame for partition a disk. If you think that your hars disk in damage or contains errors and bad sectors then HDD (hard disk regenerator) is worlds best repairing programme.

Well after doing my last defragment i noticed that for some reason windows put information at the end of the disk for whatever reason. so i reformated my hard disk and put windows back on and now have ubuntu installed on my computer now.
