I can confirm this with my HP 5370C. I could scan under Hoary and Breezy with it, but in Dapper it doesn't work any more (the same bug).

BUT: Under Hoary and Breezy I got this problem (from sane-project.org) --> Some Firmware revisions have x-axis image scaling problems over 1200 dpi. With SANE my scanner was useless!

You should file a bug with the I/O- error in Malone (under bugs here in launchpad). Perhaps you have got another firmware version and your scanner will then work.

I personally use 'vuescan' to scan with this scanner (but it's a commercial app :-( ). This works perfectly. Sorry, I can't help you more at the moment.

Can you help with this problem?
