Maximum ram supported by Festy Fawn

Asked by pislander2005

I am new to Ubuntu. I have Ubuntu 7.04 (X86 architecture). I have currently 512 Mb of ram and thinking of upgrading to 2 Gb. Will my Ubuntu support this 2 Gb upgrade? What do you suggest for a PCI video card. Thank you

the x86 architecture will, depending on your motherboard/bios, support up to 4GB of ram. so go get your 2 gigs of ram. feisty will run smoothly with it ;-)
no idea about pci graphic cards. ati just annouced new open source drivers for their (newer) products. but maybe you don't have much of a choice with pci anyway. but intel, ati and nvidia are definitely preferable.

I'm looking at the default config for kernel 2.6.20-16-generic, and Ubuntu has support for more than 4G enabled. I did not modify this, so I would wager its a default ubuntu setting.

with PAE ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension ) up 64GB are possible but then "depending on your motherboard/bios" is even more important. ubuntu amd64 is running quite well in the meantime. writing these lines with it ;-)
