It is highly recommended to download at least security updates for your installed packages.
The system will determine which ones do you need and will ask for your permission to start downloading and installing them.

You can change this settings, so if you are always on you can set it to download without asking and even install them.
If you have slow internet you may prefer to disable automatic background update checking and do it manually.

Don't worry if download is interrupted, it will continue when connection is on again and you will not lose anything already downloaded.
