7.10 update: gimp overwrite error

Asked by Alan Litchfield

On doing an update through Update Manager in 7.10 the update process stopped with an error when updating gimp. When I re-ran Update Manager I got the following message:

"It is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this issue at first."

I tried 'sudo apt-get --fix-broken install' in Terminal and got the following output:

Until I can fix this I am unable to update any packages. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This is a known bug in the gimp-package. You can find a temporary fix to this problem from the bug report, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/148985
